IdenCity takes part in the Imperial Spring Leadership Forum on Inclusive, Sustainable and Resilient Cities in the One Belt, One Road (OBOR) Initiative at Imperial Springs , near Guangzhou, China, on 29-30 May. This event is co-organized by the World Leadership Alliance-Club de Madrid, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Australia-China Friendship and Exchange Association.
The One Belt, One Road (OBOR) Initiative is China’s major foreign policy and political economy strategy, proposed by Chinese paramount leader Xi Jinping that concentrates on connectivity and cooperation among countries. For this reason, the Forum aims to focus on the impact that the implementation of the OBOR strategy will have on the development of inclusive, sustainable and resilient cities and societies, not only in China but also in the other countries (more than 60) along the OBOR route.
Cities are the space where sustainable development and shared prosperity can be most effectively realized and bear the greatest impact in the day-to-day lives of citizens worldwide. In this context, the Forum serves as a platform for discussion on ‘Inclusive, Sustainable and Resilient Cities in the One Belt One Road (OBOR) Initiative’ and it engages international political leaders with China’s political, business and university leaders in underlining best practices to advance the development of more efficient, inclusive and sustainable urbanization models and societies. More specifically, the Forum encourages the development of the green transformation of cities and it establishes an OBOR City Alliance, supported by participating mayors, Chinese authorities and former heads of State and Government, as the vehicle for sharing knowledge and coordinate efforts. Furthermore, another objective that the Forum wants to accomplish is to highlight the links between China’s pursuit of the OBOR initiative and its role as G20 Chair during 2016.
The discussion brings together around 50 high-powered participants, including China’s President Xi Jinping, Club de Madrid members, high-ranking Chinese authorities, and representatives of the private sector, academia and civil society. Jordi Hereu, President of IdenCity, has the privilege to talk about the following subject: “The City Project”.
